Discourse presents snippets from around the web for all viewpoints on important topics.
We are a new source of information that is productive & informative but also designed for today’s more 'bite-sized' standards for information consumption. Our concept is simple:
- Show multiple viewpoints: The only way to truly defend against bias and echo chambers is to untangle the biases and lay them out explicitly. For example, rather than trying to write a ‘balanced’ article about news related to the war in Israel & Gaza, one can lay out the Palestinian and Israeli viewpoints on the story at hand side-by-side. This can actually be more engaging as well. If done right, this can actually be a more engaging format.
- Curated social commentary: Social media & bite-sized commentary is the new desired format for consuming information. However, the ‘everyone says what they want’ social media environment doesn’t work well for news and contentious topics. Instead, we curate the relevant commentary - curating an equal amount for both sides.
- Source all information: All claims on Discourse are reliably sourced. Over time, this helps to build a habit - setting the expectation that information or social commentary must have sources for them to be taken seriously.
With the rise of ‘citizen journalism’ across social media and personal outlets, it can be hard to find and contextualize so many different sources.
Discourse aggregates relevant commentary for each viewpoint, pulling from sources such as X, Reddit, and smaller blogs. And including content from both subject matter experts and individuals affected by the topic.
